Nancy Stassinopoulos was born in New York and grew up in New Hampshire and Maine. She graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and received her Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, where she was an Editor of the Law Review and in the top 10% of her class. After she was admitted to the New York Bar in 1975, she practiced in the areas of animal law and municipal law for five years, before moving to San Diego in 1980. She was admitted to the California Bar in December 1980 and soon became involved in Family Law, establishing her own practice in 1984. She was certified as a Specialist in Family Law in 1987 by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.

Ms. Stassinopoulos's goal is to obtain the best possible result for her clients, through litigation or negotiation. In order to achieve these results, she uses the Internet for legal research, and specialized computer software for family law. She also does mediation for clients who want to resolve their case outside of the courthouse, in a confidential and less stressful setting.

The firm's clients are kept thoroughly informed of the progress of their case. They receive copies of all correspondence and court documents. Phone calls are promptly returned by Ms. Stassinopoulos or a member of her staff.

Ms. Stassinopoulos represents both husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. When appointed by the court, she also represents children in high-conflict custody cases.

Ms. Stassinopoulos has been an active member of the San Diego County Certified Family Law Specialists Committee for many years, including two terms as a member of the Executive Committee, and is serving as Chair in 2003. These activities have given her the opportunity to work with other family law specialists and the family law judiciary to improve the quality of the Family Court in San Diego. She is a member of the California State Bar Association Family Law Section, and served on the Executive Committee of that Section from 1996-1999. She is a member of the San Diego Lawyers Club, California Women Lawyers and the American Bar Association.

Ms. Stassinopoulos is married and has two adult children. She enjoys studio cycling at the YMCA, caring for her animal companions, gardening and reading.

 

   

 

 
 
 

John H. Schweitzer was born and raised in San Diego, California. He attended Arizona State University and graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in May 1989. Mr. Schweitzer went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson University School of Law. After graduation in May 1992, he was involved with startup operations in the San Diego office of Merrill Lynch Trust Company of California, as a trust representative specializing in administration of estates and estate planning. Soon thereafter, Mr. Schweitzer was promoted to the New York City office of Merrill Lynch Trust Company of New York, located at the World Financial Center. He worked as a Regional Trust Company Representative and Business Development Officer, where he concentrated and honed his skills in estate planning for corporate executives and particularly, the use of charitable trusts and family foundations to help alleviate estate taxes. Later, Mr. Schweitzer moved back to the West Coast and was admitted to the California Bar in 1996. He worked as a Business Development Officer and Vice President with the Los Angeles office of Northern Trust Bank of California, where he specialized in estate planning to high net worth individuals and members of the private bank. In 1999, Mr. Schweitzer acted upon his lifelong desire of becoming a United States Marine, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in December of that same year.


During his tenure in the Marine Corps, Captain Schweitzer served as Civil Law Officer, Defense Counsel, and Legal Assistance Officer, where he was first introduced to the intricacies of family law practice. After serving in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, Captain Schweitzer remained on active duty, serving as Legal Assistance Officer at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. He resigned his commission August of 2004.


Mr. Schweitzer is now an associate attorney with the Law Office of Nancy Stassinopoulos, APC, and concentrates his practice in Family Law, Military Divorce, Estate Planning and Probate Law, and serves as a Private Fiduciary. He is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association.
Mr. Schweitzer is married and resides in La Jolla, California. He enjoys snow and water skiing, surfing, running, biking, swimming, and traveling.
